Expansion Excess Policy

An expansion excess policy allows you to automatically schedule capacity expansions when the facility capacity is about to be exceeded.

Expansion excess policy

An expansion policy is defined similarly to a Facility Expansion job; you must enter the Construction Time, CapEx and OpEx of the expansion, use the table to define the fluid capacities To expand and variable OpEx, and select between using Incremental values or Absolute values.

  • Unused capacity: This option allows you to preempt a future capacity shortfall by starting an expansion when a certain threshold is reached. If, for example, the facility capacity is 100 Mbpd and the unused capacity setting is 10%, construction of the expansion will commence when the facility production has reached 90 Mbpd.

If more than one expansion is defined for the same facility, they are applied consecutively, in the order they were defined and are presented in the tab. Each new expansion is not evaluated nor performed until the previous one has completed.

Note also that if an excess state is caused only by a facility's Deliverability limit, expanding its capacity will not have any effect on production, since the deliverability limit will remain the same.
